NVMe Heatsinks - Are they worth it?
Abstract
I run a handful of dedicated servers running suboptimal hardware in suboptimal conditions as most do with their home servers. One area of concern is heat, especially for NVMe drives which run hot by nature. I wondered if the cheapest NVMe cooler would actually help.
Hardware
Server
- Mobo: Minisforum bd795i
- Case: Sliger 2U 15”
- NVMe:
Heatsink
- Thermalright TR-M.2 2280 Type A B
- Cost: $7
Outcome
Simply; yes it did drop temps from ~73-85C to 60-73C which is right in range what I was hoping for. Mission accomplished.
